Albert hails from Spring, Texas. His passion (pre-adventure racing) was soccer. Albert lived and breathed the sport; as far as he was concerned, nothing else could compare. To improve his running ability (since running is a big part of soccer), he began to train religiously. Competitive by nature, Albert started with 5K fun-run's. A natural progression was to compete in 10K's (Conoco Rodeo Run). Soon, 5K and 10K races lost there luster, and his thoughts played with the idea of a marathon. Albert completed his first marathon in 1998--Dallas Whiterock Marathon. His finishing time was 3:43:58. Next, there was the 3M Half-Marathon in Austin, TX, and 2 weeks later--Motorola Austin Marathon Albert's future would take a twist of fate on July of 1999. During a soccer match, Albert tore his anterior crucial ligament (ACL). Within one month he was on the surgery table having reconstruction knee surgery. Having played soccer for over 20 years, it was time for a change. In the Summer of 2000, Albert would participate in a few Adventure Sprint Races and one 48-hour Adventure Race. The year 2001 would bring about the introduction to more adventure races. Some races would include: Eco-Lonestar, Texas Challenge, Aquaterra, Terrafirma, Hill Country, and the Wild Onion Urban Race. To complement the disciplines of adventure racing, Albert would participate in mountain bike races that tested his endurance (i.e. 12 Hours of Dirt, 24 Hours of Rocky Hill, 8 Hours FDNY, and Dirty Dozen). Albert spends his free time playing the guitar, trying to sing, and occasionally drawing and sketching. He likes to read and work on photoshop art. Albert is also the proud son of Edgar and Letty Baquero. Edgar can be credited for starting Albert on a running program. © 2002 ColdBlueSteel design concepts |
